Maiden Issue of the “Over the Hedge” Newsletter

Introduction

Welcome to “Over the Hedge.”

Happy New Year, 2024 is now here! Let us hope and pray that 2024 is going to be much better than 2023 (the market is currently pricing in 5 to 6 rate cuts this year, depending on whom you ask).

Thank you, my friends, for subscribing and coming along with me in this journey to financial freedom. We started small, but we will keep growing.

What’s in a name?

So, why did I choose this as the name of this newsletter? A hedge is defined as a fence or boundary formed by bushes or shrubs. We could think of it metaphorically as a hindrance, obstacle, or partition. Conceptually, it is an advanced risk management strategy that is designed to reduce the risk of loss. A hedge can also represent a destination or milestone to mark some sort of achievement or even triumph.

This imagery of going past and beyond the hedge is very fitting. First, this newsletter is designed to help us reach our financial goals. Second, we will actually take an in-depth look at the nature and the technical details of hedging as applied to business and trading in particular. Finally, we will be a community that will encourage, support and cheer us as we strain towards financial success.

More about me

All of you, my readers, are not strangers. In fact, you are my family and friends from school, work, church and community. You know that I am a Mathematics and Computer Science nerd, and a 22-year veteran in Wall Street working in the trading floors of the likes of Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. For the last 11 years, I have been a full-time investor and trader in the Equities and Options market. Many of you over the years have been asking me questions and advice about Finance, Investing, Taxes, Estate Planning, Cryptocurrency and others. Now at last, Over the Hedge provides a forum and repository for all that knowledge.

As a bible-believing Christian, I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and subscribe to biblical principles and ethical standards. Ultimately, our success will only be possible through God’s blessings and our individual and corporate success will bring glory to God.
